PROPUESTA PARA SUSTITUCIÓN DE ENVASES PET PARA AGUA POR ENVASES DE VIDRIO RETORNABLE EN GUAYAQUIL

Abstract

One of the world’s biggest problems is waste generation, especially plastic waste due to their no biodegradation capacity. This problem in Ecuador it’s magnified due to: the low recycling culture, the high plastic material consumption and its bad management. Guayaquil is one of the most representative cities in this predicament, by being the principal plastic consumer nationwide, and limiting itself to the disposal of all domestic resources in the landfill without any kind of differentiated management, where the plastics will remain without deteriorating. Guayaquil’s weather condition has maximize PET plastic water bottle consumption, which also enhances the quantity of PET waste generated by day by its inhabitants, making Guayaquil the city with the most PET consumption nationwide. The environmental regulation has not solved PET problem, therefore stablishing an environmental policy in order to substitute water bottle PET for returnable glass will minimize the amount of waste that is sent to the landfill and will enhance a recycling culture in the city, resolving the excessive PET consumption problem
