Abstract

Introduction: Joint Hypermobility (JH) is an underdiagnosed condition, with significant prevalence in our environment, which can be associated with other pathologies, especially cardiac. Objective: To determine the prevalence of JH in school-age patients at the Roberto Gilbert Hospital and the presence of cardiac manifestations in them. Methodology: Non-experimental, prospective, observational study with a qualitative approach to the presence of Joint Hypermobility and cardiac manifestations in outpatients of the Roberto Gilbert E. Children's Hospital, during the period January - June 2018. The inclusion criteria included They chose patients between six and twelve years of age, who signed informed consent, with full realization of the Beighton scale and questionnaire of cardiac manifestations. The data obtained were stored in Microsoft Excel and the statistics were analyzed with frequency and relationship measurements. Results: 36% of patients presented JH, of which there was no significant difference between female and male. The age with the highest prevalence of HA was similar in the range of six to eight and nine to twelve years with 37 and 35% respectively. Within the total number of patients with HA, 14 had cardiac manifestations. Finally, there was a significant relationship between the presence of HA and cardiac manifestations. Conclusions: There is evidence of a significant prevalence of JH in a school population. As well as the relation between the presence of JH and cardiac manifestations.
